Our Favorites for Wiener Schnitzel:

Gustl - Bauer

Drahtgasse 2, 1010 Vienna‎ 01 5335889

When I came to Vienna prior to my family, I tried a few restaurants and decided that Gustl Bauer serves the best so they had their first Schnitzel here. Since then, it has become our family "tradition" to bring our guests here for their first Wiener Schnitzel. A small restaurant in the centre of the city that is usually crowded with mostly the regulars. However, the servers are very nice to both regulars and tourists alike but are sometimes shorthanded during the busiest hours (so expect some delays but don't take it personally :). Bit rustic and nothing fancy but we always feel welcomed and comfortable here and enjoy their food. There also serve other traditional Austrian dishes that are equally good.

Café Central

corner of Herrengasse and Strauchgasse

1010 Vienna, 01 5333763  Website

If one wishes to get a taste of what could have been a café experience at the turn of the 19/20th century Vienna and also to enjoy fine Austrian cuisine, this would be the place. Very popular with the tourists but don’t be deterred!  A beautifully restored café with equally beautiful furnishings will make you feel like you are in a scene of a movie except it is real. With a menu that changes seasonally includes traditional Austrian dishes as well as some of their own creations. All are prepared and presented in a refined manner. Their pastry offering are irresistible to your eyes and always meets or exceeds the expectation of your palates. You can have breakfast, coffee, pastries, light snack or full meal here.
